Resolution Criteria
This market will resolve to the player who wins the 2026 National League Most Valuable Player Award. In the event of a tie, this market will resolve according to the official winner as determined by MLB rules. If multiple winners are announced then this market will resolve to the player whose listed last name comes first alphabetically. If the 2026 MLB season is cancelled, postponed after December 31, 2026, 11:59 PM ET, or there is otherwise no winner declared within that timeframe, this market will resolve to “Other”. The resolution source for this market will be official information from Major League Baseball; however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.
Shohei Ohtani is the overwhelmingly heaviest-backed contender to win the 2026 National League MVP Award in current prediction market trading, with the field broadly distributed across a large number of other players. The market spans 51 outcomes, with volume sharply concentrated on Ohtani and a small cluster of others including Corbin Carroll, Bryce Harper, Elly De La Cruz, and Andy Pages. Resolution follows the official MLB NL MVP announcement, expected before 13 November 2026.
Market structure
The market covers 51 named outcomes. Volume is heavily concentrated on a single player, with the remainder distributed thinly across a wide field of National League hitters and pitchers. Resolution is based on the official NL MVP winner as announced by Major League Baseball. The deadline is 13 November 2026. If the season is cancelled or no winner is declared by 31 December 2026, the market resolves to 'Other'. In the event of a tie, the player whose surname comes first alphabetically is used.
Background
The National League Most Valuable Player Award has been one of baseball's most prestigious individual honours since 1911, voted on by the Baseball Writers' Association of America. Shohei Ohtani won back-to-back NL MVP awards in 2023 (American League, with the Angels) and claimed his first NL MVP in 2024 after signing a record contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers. His two-way ability as both a dominant starting pitcher and elite hitter makes him structurally unlike any other player in the modern era. The 2026 award will reflect performance across the full NL regular season, with voting completed shortly after the postseason concludes. The concentration of market interest on Ohtani reflects both his recent award history and his unique statistical profile, though a full season of competing candidates across 15 NL teams means the field remains open.
Key factors
Ohtani's ability to accumulate value as both a hitter and pitcher gives him a structural edge in MVP voting, but injury to either role would significantly alter his candidacy. Historical patterns show that MVP voting responds strongly to team success — players on playoff-contending clubs tend to receive greater consideration. Corbin Carroll, Bryce Harper, Elly De La Cruz, and Andy Pages are among the named alternatives in current trading, each dependent on sustained performance and team relevance through the full 162-game schedule. Harper's candidacy is particularly tied to his health history, while De La Cruz's value is linked to his development as a dual-threat player. First-half performance often shapes narratives that persist through voting, meaning early-season injuries or breakout performances can have outsized influence. The BBWAA voting window closes after the postseason, so playoff performance — while not formally part of the regular season award — can colour voter perception. A crowded or injury-affected field could redistribute volume toward longshot candidates.
FAQ
How is the 2026 NL MVP market resolved?
The market resolves to whichever player is officially named the 2026 National League Most Valuable Player by Major League Baseball. In the event of a tie, the player whose surname comes first alphabetically among the tied winners is used. Official MLB announcements or a consensus of credible reporting serve as the resolution source.
When does the 2026 NL MVP market resolve?
The resolution deadline is 13 November 2026, which falls after the postseason concludes and the BBWAA typically announces award winners. If no winner is declared by 31 December 2026 — for example, due to a cancelled or severely delayed season — the market resolves to 'Other'.
What happens if the 2026 MLB season is cancelled or shortened?
If the 2026 MLB season is cancelled, postponed past 31 December 2026, or no NL MVP winner is officially declared within that timeframe, the market resolves to 'Other'. A shortened season that still produces an official MVP award would resolve normally.
What does the 2026 NL MVP market currently show?
Volume is sharply concentrated on Shohei Ohtani, who is by far the heaviest-backed outcome. A small cluster of other players — including Corbin Carroll, Bryce Harper, Elly De La Cruz, and Andy Pages — hold modest shares, with the remaining volume distributed thinly across a wide field of 51 total outcomes.
