Resolution Criteria
This market will resolve to the manager who wins the 2026 American League Manager of the Year award for the 2026 MLB Season. In the event of a tie, this market will resolve according to the official winner as determined by MLB rules. If multiple winners are announced then this market will resolve to the manager whose listed last name comes first alphabetically. If the 2026 MLB season is cancelled, postponed after December 31, 2026, 11:59 PM ET, or there is otherwise no winner declared within that timeframe, this market will resolve to “Other”. The resolution source for this market will be official information from Major League Baseball; however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.
Kevin Cash is the heaviest-backed contender to win the 2026 American League Manager of the Year award in current prediction market trading, with the field broadly distributed across more than a dozen named managers. Will Venable and Derek Shelton are also among the more heavily backed outcomes. The award is decided by the Baseball Writers' Association of America following the conclusion of the 2026 MLB season, with resolution expected before 19 December 2026.
Market structure
The market covers 21 outcomes, with volume notably concentrated on Kevin Cash but with meaningful backing spread across a cluster including Will Venable, Skip Schumaker, Aaron Boone, and Derek Shelton. Resolution is based on official announcement of the AL Manager of the Year award by MLB and the BBWAA. The deadline is 19 December 2026. In a tie, standard MLB tiebreaking rules apply; if multiple winners are announced, the alphabetically earlier surname resolves the market. Season cancellation or no declared winner by the deadline resolves the market to 'Other'.
Background
The American League Manager of the Year award has been presented annually by the Baseball Writers' Association of America since 1983, recognising the AL manager judged to have performed most outstandingly during the regular season. Voting is conducted by two BBWAA members in each MLB city at the conclusion of the regular season, before the postseason begins. The award frequently favours managers whose teams outperform pre-season expectations, particularly those who guide clubs to division titles or significant improvement in winning percentage. Recent winners have come from a wide range of franchises, reflecting that the award rewards relative achievement rather than simply managing the most talented roster. The 2026 season is ongoing as the award cycle progresses, meaning current market positions reflect how managers' teams are performing relative to expectations.
Key factors
Team performance relative to pre-season projections is historically the most significant factor in BBWAA voting, meaning managers whose clubs outperform expectations carry structural advantages over those leading teams that merely meet them. Injury-hit rosters that overachieve tend to generate strong Manager of the Year narratives. Division title wins, particularly in competitive divisions, add weight to a candidacy, as do turnaround stories from franchises that struggled the previous season. The timing of voter balloting — before the postseason — means playoff performance does not directly influence the result, focusing attention on the 162-game regular season. Roster stability and media coverage patterns can also affect name recognition among voting writers. Late-season collapses or controversies involving a manager can shift sentiment even after a strong earlier performance. The breadth of the current market field, with 21 named outcomes, reflects genuine uncertainty about which franchise will produce the clearest overperformance narrative by season's end.
