Resolution Criteria

This market will resolve to the player who wins the 2026 American League Platinum Glove award for the 2026 MLB Season. In the event of a tie, this market will resolve according to the official winner as determined by MLB rules. If multiple winners are announced then this market will resolve to the player whose listed last name comes first alphabetically. If the 2026 MLB season is cancelled, postponed after December 31, 2026, 11:59 PM ET, or there is otherwise no winner declared within that timeframe, this market will resolve to “Other”. The resolution source for this market will be official information from Major League Baseball; however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.

Bobby Witt Jr. is the heaviest-backed contender to win the 2026 American League Platinum Glove award in current prediction market trading, with the field otherwise broadly distributed across a cluster of outfielders, infielders, and catchers. The award is decided by a fan and player vote process administered by Rawlings and MLB, with the winner expected to be announced in the autumn following the 2026 regular season. This market resolves no later than 19 December 2026.

Market structure

The market spans 42 named outcomes plus an 'Other' fallback, covering positions across the American League roster. Volume is heavily concentrated on one contender, with a secondary cluster of several players holding meaningful shares and the remainder broadly distributed at low levels. Resolution is based on official MLB and Rawlings Platinum Glove announcement. If the season is cancelled or no winner is declared by 31 December 2026, the market resolves to 'Other'. A tie-break favours the player whose surname appears first alphabetically.

Background

The Rawlings Platinum Glove Award has been presented since 2011, recognising the single best defensive player in each league as selected from that year's Gold Glove Award winners. The AL Platinum Glove therefore first requires a player to win a Gold Glove at their position before becoming eligible. The combined electorate — comprising fans voting online and fellow MLB players — means the award reflects both statistical defensive metrics and wider reputation within the game. Recent AL winners have spanned multiple positions, and the award carries significant prestige as the culmination of the defensive awards calendar. The 2026 edition will be contested following the conclusion of the regular season and Gold Glove voting, making the award timeline dependent on prior rounds of recognition.

Key factors

Several structural dependencies shape how this market is likely to resolve. A player must first win their positional Gold Glove to be eligible for the Platinum Glove, meaning any injury, positional change, or underperformance during the 2026 season that prevents a Gold Glove win automatically removes a contender from consideration. The dual voting structure — fan ballots weighted alongside player votes — means that high-profile players at marquee positions may attract disproportionate support relative to their defensive metrics. Players who perform well in October or who attract significant media attention during the season may accumulate fan votes more effectively. Position scarcity also plays a role: in years where defensive talent is concentrated at a single position, vote splitting among multiple strong candidates at other positions can elevate a dominant performer at a less competitive position. Season-ending injuries or suspensions before the voting window closes would directly affect eligibility. The resolution deadline of 19 December 2026 aligns with the typical MLB awards calendar, but a significantly delayed season or postseason could compress the voting timeline.
