Resolution Criteria

This market will resolve to the manager who wins the 2026 National League Manager of the Year award for the 2026 MLB Season. In the event of a tie, this market will resolve according to the official winner as determined by MLB rules. If multiple winners are announced then this market will resolve to the manager whose listed last name comes first alphabetically. If the 2026 MLB season is cancelled, postponed after December 31, 2026, 11:59 PM ET, or there is otherwise no winner declared within that timeframe, this market will resolve to “Other”. The resolution source for this market will be official information from Major League Baseball; however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.

Walt Weiss is the heaviest-backed contender to win the 2026 National League Manager of the Year award in current prediction market trading, with Craig Counsell and Don Kelly among the next most heavily backed. The market spans 21 named outcomes, reflecting genuine uncertainty across the NL field. Resolution is based on the official MLB announcement, expected before 19 December 2026.

Market structure

The market lists 21 outcomes, with volume notably concentrated on a small cluster of managers rather than distributed evenly. Walt Weiss draws the heaviest share, followed by Craig Counsell and Don Kelly in a secondary cluster, and a broader spread across a dozen or more further candidates. Resolution requires an official MLB award declaration by 31 December 2026; if no winner is declared within that window, the market resolves to 'Other'.

Background

The National League Manager of the Year award has been presented by the Baseball Writers' Association of America since 1983, recognising the NL manager judged to have performed most outstandingly across the regular season. Voting takes place at the end of the regular season before the postseason begins. The award has historically rewarded managers who guide teams to unexpected success, outperform pre-season projections, or stabilise a franchise undergoing transition. The 2026 cycle is notable for the presence of both established names with prior award histories and several first- or second-year managers whose clubs are being closely watched. The BBWAA electorate considers factors including win-loss record, team context, injury management, and in-season decision-making.

Key factors

A manager's club performance across the 162-game regular season is the primary driver of BBWAA voting. Teams that exceed pre-season projections or overcome significant roster adversity tend to generate stronger candidacies. Managerial tenure matters contextually: a first-year manager steering a turnaround carries a different narrative to a veteran maintaining an established contender. Injury crises that require creative roster management can elevate a candidate's profile. Division competitiveness also influences perception — winning a contested division title generally strengthens a manager's case versus leading a weaker division. Late-season momentum and whether a team secures postseason berth, particularly from an unexpected position in the standings, can shape final ballot order. The presence of multiple strong candidacies within the same division or market can dilute individual vote shares under BBWAA's points-based system. The alphabetical tiebreaker clause in this market's resolution criteria would only activate if MLB itself declares a co-winner.
