Resolution Criteria
Season 5 of The Witcher is expected to air on Netflix in late 2026. This market will resolve to “Yes” if the specified character dies during "The Witcher: Season 5". Otherwise, this market will resolve to “No”. A qualifying death must show the specified character dead on screen, or otherwise that character’s death must clearly be stated to have occurred, even if offscreen (e.g., characters confirm their death in conversation, the funeral of a character occurs, etc.). If a death is reversed through a revival, resurrection, or reanimation that occurs after the character has died, that death will still qualify. Deaths occurring in any timeline or dimension depicted in "The Witcher: Season 5" will count toward resolution. Flashback scenes showing a character alive before their death, as well as dream sequences, hallucinations, or visions of dead characters, will not affect resolution. Characters who were already confirmed dead before "The Witcher: Season 5" begins will not count toward this market’s resolution. If a character’s fate is deliberately left ambiguous, it will not qualify toward the resolution of this market. Only deaths confirmed by the end of "The Witcher: Season 5" will qualify. Only events depicted in official "The Witcher: Season 5" episodes will count toward resolution. Post-credits scenes count if they are part of the official episode, but supplementary materials such as podcasts, comics, books, or other media do not count unless they are explicitly referenced within the show itself. The market will resolve after the final episode of "The Witcher: Season 5" is released.
The Witcher Season 5 death market on Polymarket covers nine named characters, with trading heavily concentrated toward fatal outcomes for several major figures. Vilgefortz is the heaviest-backed to die, followed closely by Geralt of Rivia and Yennefer of Vengerberg. Resolution depends on confirmed on-screen or clearly stated deaths in official Netflix episodes of Season 5, expected in late 2026, with a final deadline of 30 June 2027.
Market structure
Nine individual character markets each resolve Yes or No. Volume is heavily concentrated toward death for Vilgefortz and Geralt, with strong backing for Yennefer and Regis as well. Cahir and Jaskier sit closer to the middle of the distribution. Emhyr is the most thinly backed for a fatal outcome. Resolution requires confirmed death on screen or clear narrative statement of death within official Season 5 episodes only.
Background
The Witcher Season 5 will be the final season of Netflix's adaptation of Andrzej Sapkowski's fantasy saga, concluding a run that began in 2019. The show underwent significant upheaval when Henry Cavill departed the title role after Season 2, with Liam Hemsworth taking over as Geralt from Season 4. Season 5 is positioned as a definitive conclusion, meaning long-running character arcs — including the fates of Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri — are expected to reach endpoints. Sapkowski's source novels, particularly the final book 'The Lady of the Lake', do resolve several major characters fatally, though the show has previously diverged from the books in meaningful ways. The combination of a series finale structure and source material that kills prominent figures has driven elevated trading on death outcomes across much of the cast.
Key factors
The most consequential factor is how closely Season 5's writers follow the conclusions of Sapkowski's book series. In the novels, several characters including Geralt and Yennefer face deaths that are subsequently complicated by narrative ambiguity — a tension the resolution criteria addresses by counting deaths even if later reversed. The show's history of departing from source material means book outcomes are informative but not determinative. A second structural factor is the series-finale dynamic: showrunners are likely to resolve major character arcs conclusively, which may increase the probability of permanent deaths relative to earlier seasons. Vilgefortz, a primary antagonist, has a clear narrative arc pointing toward resolution. For protagonists such as Ciri and Jaskier, creative decisions about tone and legacy will shape outcomes. Production schedules, casting availability, and Netflix's involvement in final creative decisions may also influence which character endings are filmed and included in the official episode run.
