Resolution Criteria
This market will resolve according to the next UFC fighter that Petr Yan is officially announced to face in a UFC bout. Resolution for this market will be based on the next UFC fighter that Petr Yan is officially announced to fight, regardless of whether the fight ends up taking place. Only official announcements from the UFC, which include a scheduled date for the bout, will count. Announcements with no date or which do not confirm that the fight is official, speculation, or other unofficial announcements will not count. If Yan is officially announced to fight any non-listed fighter or no qualifying announcement is made by December 31, 2026, 11:59 PM ET, this market will resolve to “Other”. The primary resolution source for this market will be official information from the UFC (https://www.ufc.com/).
Merab Dvalishvili is the heavily dominant outcome in the market for Petr Yan's next UFC opponent, with trading volume concentrated overwhelmingly on that single name. Sean O'Malley is the only other contender drawing meaningful attention, while Alexander Volkanovski sits as a distant third. The market resolves when the UFC officially announces Yan's next bout with a confirmed date, and the deadline is 31 December 2026.
Market structure
The market spans 41 possible outcomes but is strikingly concentrated: the vast majority of volume rests on a single contender, with a small secondary cluster and the remainder broadly distributed at negligible levels. Resolution requires an official UFC announcement that includes a scheduled date. If no qualifying announcement is made before 31 December 2026, or if Yan is matched against a fighter not listed among the named outcomes, the market resolves to 'Other'.
Background
Petr Yan is a former UFC Bantamweight Champion whose recent career has been defined by a series of high-profile contests and a complex trajectory through the 135-pound division. Once regarded as among the most technically refined fighters in the weight class, Yan has faced setbacks that have altered his positioning in the title picture. His next booking carries significant implications for whether he remains in contention at bantamweight or recalibrates toward a different path. The UFC bantamweight division is currently one of the most active and closely watched in the promotion, with several title storylines unfolding simultaneously, making Yan's next opponent selection a matter of considerable strategic interest.
Key factors
The most consequential factor is the current bantamweight landscape: an official match between Yan and Dvalishvili would depend on both fighters' availability, contractual status, and where each stands in the UFC's scheduling queue. Dvalishvili's own obligations — including any pending title defences or contender bouts — directly affect whether that pairing can be formalised. Sean O'Malley's involvement would hinge on his own competitive calendar and whether a Yan rematch aligns with promotional priorities. Alexander Volkanovski's presence in the market reflects speculation about potential cross-division or catchweight scenarios, though any such bout would require resolution of his featherweight commitments. Injury, contractual negotiation, and UFC matchmaking strategy can all delay or redirect bookings. The 'Other' outcome becomes relevant if the UFC announces Yan against a fighter not among the listed names, which could occur if a short-notice replacement or unexpected matchup is formalised before the deadline.
FAQ
How is the 'Who will Petr Yan fight next?' market resolved?
The market resolves based on the next fighter the UFC officially announces Yan will face, provided the announcement includes a confirmed scheduled date. The primary source is UFC.com. Unofficial reports, undated announcements, and speculation do not count toward resolution.
When does the Petr Yan next opponent market resolve?
The market resolves as soon as the UFC makes a qualifying official announcement. If no such announcement is made before 31 December 2026 at 11:59 PM ET, the market resolves to 'Other' by default.
What happens if the announced fight is later cancelled before it takes place?
Cancellation after an official announcement does not affect resolution. The market resolves on the basis of the official announcement — which must include a scheduled date — regardless of whether the fight ultimately occurs.

Volume is overwhelmingly concentrated on Merab Dvalishvili as the heaviest-backed outcome by a substantial margin. Sean O'Malley is the only other contender with notable backing, followed at a distance by Alexander Volkanovski, with all remaining named outcomes drawing minimal activity.
