Resolution Criteria
This market will resolve to “Yes” if the total stablecoin market cap shown on DefiLlama is equal to or greater than $500B on any day by December 31, 2026. Otherwise, it will resolve to “No.” The resolution source is DefiLlama’s Total Stablecoins page, available at: https://defillama.com/stablecoins A data point on the DefiLlama chart is considered finalized once the data point for the following day is published. If the DefiLlama page becomes permanently unavailable, the market will resolve based on other credible and publicly verifiable sources.
Prediction markets currently show stablecoin market capitalisation reaching $500 billion before the end of 2026 as a heavily minority-backed outcome, with volume concentrated on the 'No' side. Resolution depends on whether DefiLlama's Total Stablecoins tracker records a figure at or above $500 billion on any single day by 31 December 2026. The market resolves on 1 January 2027.
Market structure
This is a binary yes/no market with a single resolution threshold: a $500 billion total stablecoin market cap reading on DefiLlama on any day before 2027. Volume is heavily concentrated on the 'No' outcome. Resolution source is DefiLlama's Total Stablecoins page; a data point is considered finalised once the following day's data is published. A fallback to other credible public sources applies if DefiLlama becomes permanently unavailable.
Background
The total stablecoin market cap has grown substantially since 2020, with USDT and USDC dominating supply. As of early 2025, the aggregate market cap across all stablecoins sits well below the $500 billion threshold, meaning a significant acceleration in issuance and adoption would be required within the remaining window. Stablecoin supply is closely tied to broader crypto market conditions, institutional adoption, and regulatory developments. The United States Congress has been actively debating stablecoin-specific legislation, which some analysts suggest could unlock greater institutional issuance. Meanwhile, yield-bearing stablecoins and cross-border payment use cases have driven fresh demand, though the pace of growth has been uneven across market cycles.
Key factors
Several structural factors could influence whether this threshold is reached. Macro crypto sentiment plays a central role: prior periods of rapid stablecoin expansion have coincided with bull-market phases where traders seek on-chain liquidity without exiting to fiat. Regulatory clarity in the United States, European Union, and major Asian jurisdictions could either accelerate institutional issuance or constrain it depending on legislative outcomes. The entry of large financial institutions — banks, payment processors, or sovereign entities — into stablecoin issuance would add meaningful supply. Conversely, a sustained risk-off environment, de-pegging events, or enforcement actions against major issuers could reduce overall market cap. The timeline is also a constraint: with the deadline fixed at 31 December 2026, any sustained growth would need to materialise within a defined window, leaving limited runway for recovery from setbacks.
FAQ
How is the 'Will stablecoins hit $500B before 2027?' market resolved?
The market resolves 'Yes' if DefiLlama's Total Stablecoins page records a market cap at or above $500 billion on any single day by 31 December 2026. A data point is considered finalised once the following day's data is published on DefiLlama. Otherwise it resolves 'No'.
When does the stablecoin $500B market resolve?
The resolution deadline is 1 January 2027 at 05:00 UTC. If the $500 billion threshold is reached on any day before that point, the market resolves 'Yes' immediately once that data point is finalised. If not reached by 31 December 2026, it resolves 'No'.
What happens if DefiLlama is unavailable when the market resolves?
If DefiLlama's Total Stablecoins page becomes permanently unavailable, the market will resolve using other credible and publicly verifiable data sources. Temporary outages do not trigger the fallback; only permanent unavailability qualifies.
What does the stablecoin $500B market currently show?
Volume is heavily concentrated on the 'No' outcome, reflecting the significant gap between the current total stablecoin market cap and the $500 billion threshold. The 'Yes' outcome is the heavily minority-backed position in current trading.
